Finally, a fragrance with my name on it! Sort

Finally, a fragrance with my name on it!  (Sort of).  My colleague recently turned me on to the new Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles and their Secret Editions of fragrance, the first of which is called Cult.                  Founded by Saskia Wilson-Brown, the mission of this amazing place is to educate, innovate and support the art of perfumery. It’s home to a fragrance lab where unusual creative collaborations are encouraged, and also provides open sessions on perfume making to the public (see the calendar here).   In a typically atypical collaboration, Cult was created by perfumer Josh Meyer as an olfactive representation of Mark Harris’ sci-fi film ‘The Lost Children.’ I received a handwritten note from the founder that read “Cult was intended as an art piece - so beware.  It’s strong.” This is true. It opens with notes of geranium and rises to hit you with a heart of jasmine and a creepy intimacy that’s described as body odor - I don’t really get that from this per se, but I do get a body-closeness from the spiciness of the oud and the sharpness of a clean t-shirt.  It’s a very interesting experience, and it wears well - definitely a conversation starter. I highly recommend picking up a vial (there were only 60 made).
